October Arts & Culture

London is buzzing once more. Here are some of our favourite arts & culture exhibits and events to check out this month.

CELEBRATE NATURE & PHOTOGRAPHY AT THE NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM

Returning for the 57th time, get up close and personal to nature with an eye-opening display of highly commended entries at this year’s Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. This year, the 100 photographs, chosen from 50,000 entries by some of the world’s best wildlife photographers, reflect the planet’s increasing threat from climate change and are displayed alongside commentary providing greater insight from the museum’s scientists.

GET READY FOR PARTY SEASON AT HARRODS

Inspired by New York’s twinkling Studio 54 party scenes, Harrods is launching Studio Fifth Floor: a month of iconic exhibitions, events, music and technology. This October, the shopping destination has transformed its fifth floor into a party floor with disco-draped interiors filled with mirror balls, photo walls and party anthems.

SEE MICHELANGELO’S SISTINE CHAPEL IN LONDON

Being grounded for much of the last 18 months has left us with a serious culture void. Luckily, exhibition production company SEE and entertainment discovery platform Fever have teamed up to bring some of the world’s most incredible artwork to you. While there’s nothing quite like seeing Michelangelo’s incredible frescoes in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel in real life, for a limited time, you can catch a reproduction of the artwork in its original size in London this month. The ceiling paintings have been recreated in digital form across 16-foot panels using high-definition photographs, allowing visitors to admire the work closer than ever before – including The Last Judgement, which stretches up 41 feet high.

When: Until Sunday 31st October 2021

DELVE INTO THE WORLD OF WES ANDERSON

The wait is finally over. After a delay of more than a year, The French Dispatch comes to cinemas on Friday 22 October 2021. The movie’s star-studded cast includes some of the world’s best actors, from Call Me By Your Name star Timothée Chalamet and No Time to Die lead Léa Seydoux, to film and TV icons Tilda Swinton (A Bigger Splash) and Nomadland’s Frances McDormand. To celebrate the release, The Old Bank Vault has collaborated with @accidentallywesanderson, the famous Instagram account inspired by the eponymous director, to create an immersive pop-up taking you into the world of landscapes, architecture and interiors that echo Wes Anderson’s distinct aesthetic.
